Buff – this is the most common color

Most sables are born very dark, some completely black. The sable can start to come in around week 2, week 4 or so even at 4 months! The sable pups coat will vary thru the life, with the longer darker hairs coming in more or less as they age! Show is Jewelz, our current female. She is from a breeder in Idaho<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Roan does not show on the coat when the pups are born, you can tell only by the pads of the feet at first, then by a smudge on the muzzle. Roan presents in the white areas of the pup. Here is a blue roan.

Sable roan
Also the same as blue and chocolate roan, only in a sable variety. So the white areas show both light and dark spot because of the sable – so beautiful!

Merle – this gene does show up at birth. It presents in the coat in the NON white areas. Merle dilutes the exisitng color. Merle pups can have a partial eye in blue, or 1 or 2 full blue eyes. Some also have a freckle in their eye!

Ticking – like freckles. They can show up anywhere on the dogs body. You often see them as freckles on the muzzle.

Liver gene – when a cocker has this coloring, it replaces black for these areas – nose and pads of feet. Inside the mouth there is often dark pink instead of black. In Liver gene pups, they often have hazel or green eyes instead of the typical brown!
All chocolate pups have the liver gene. Other color coats can have it as well.
